Some of the most interesting cards in the Pokémon TCG are the ones where, if you look closely enough, you spot a Pokémon hiding in the background that has absolutely no business being there. Cameo cards are exactly that: cards where a Pokémon appears in the artwork even though it’s not named on the card at all. It might be wandering through a background scene, sitting on a shelf, or barely visible at the edge of the frame.

The collector community has been cataloguing these for years and the rabbit hole goes very deep. This is our curated guide to the best ones, and we’ll keep adding to it as we find more!

These are our top picks, but there are thousands more. Check out the full Pokémon cameo list tool to search every cameo card by Pokémon, trainer, or set!

Pokémon Cards With Group Cameos

These are the cards worth zooming in on. Each one has multiple Pokémon hiding in the artwork. The more you look, the more you find!

Influencer’s Introduction · Start Deck 100 CoroCiao Version #019

This Japanese-exclusive trainer card is one of the most underrated cameo discoveries in the TCG. The art shows Japanese YouTuber Hikanin on his couch surrounded by Pokémon, and somehow Pikachu, Charizard, Ditto, and Combee all ended up on the same card. Four iconic cameos on one piece of art is almost unheard of. It was distributed as a CoroCoro Magazine exclusive deck box pull, meaning it never touched a booster pack.

Pokémon appearances: Ditto, Charizard, Pikachu, Combee

Influencer Introduction Pokémon Card Cameo

Chansey · Twilight Masquerade #187

A Pokémon Center waiting room scene that is absolutely stacked with cameos. Snorlax is slumped in a chair in the top left, Blissey is behind the reception desk, Psyduck is visible in the bottom right, and there’s a Bellsprout peeking in from the far right edge. Worth picking up just to see how many you can spot.

Pokémon appearances: Snorlax, Blissey, Psyduck, Ditto, Bellsprout

Chansey Pokémon Cameo Card

Pikachu · 151 #173

Probably the most cameo-dense card in the modern era. The artwork is a sweeping scene with Pokémon tucked in everywhere — Caterpie, Butterfree, Pidgey, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, and more are all woven into the background in various states of visibility. At least 12 separate cameos have been logged on this one card. It’s basically a Gen 1 checklist hiding in plain sight.

Pokémon appearances: Nidoran, Nidorino, Butterfree, Psyduck, Growlithe, Slowpoke, Jigglypuff, Gengar, Pidgey, Blastoise, Mr. Mime, Caterpie

Pikachu · Scarlet & Violet Promos #SVP088

One of the most accessible multi-cameo cards in the modern era, and honestly one of the cutest. Maushold, Sprigatito, and Pawmot are all tucked into the scene alongside Pikachu, making it feel like a little Gen 9 ensemble piece. It’s also one of the few multi-cameo cards right now that won’t break the bank: raw copies regularly come in under $30, and a PSA 9 can be had for around $50.

Pokémon appearances: Maushold, Sprigatito, Pawmot

Espeon ex & Umbreon ex · 30th Celebration (Coming September 2026)

Two of the most cameo-packed cards ever printed in the TCG, and they connect! The Espeon and Umbreon Special Illustration Rares from the upcoming 30th Celebration set share a continuous scene across both cards, set against a festive backdrop absolutely stuffed with Pokémon. We’ll update the confirmed list once the set releases, but based on high-res images here’s who we can spot so far.

Espeon ex appearances: Eevee, Comfey, Victini, Vulpix, Ninetales, Mew, Kangaskhan, Cherrim, Cherubi, Tropius, Marill, Azumarill, Zeraora

Umbreon ex appearances: Eevee, Toxel, Toxtricity, Cresselia, Minior, Deino, Lucario, Riolu, Murkrow, Zoroark, Zorua, Zweilous, Hydreigon, Mewtwo

Mr. Fuji · Fossil #58

One of our favourite underrated cameo cards in the entire TCG. The artwork shows Mr. Fuji surrounded by Pokémon he’s caring for, and there are at least five different Pokémon crammed into this one tiny trainer card. It’s a vintage card that most people overlook completely, and you can usually find a copy for just a few dollars.

Pokémon appearances: Pikachu, Lickitung, Cubone, Poliwag, Weedle

Machoke · Vending Series 3 #067 (Japanese)

One of our favourite cards in the entire Vending Series, and one of the most charming cameo cards in the vintage era. The artwork is by Tomokazu Komiya (one of our favorite illustrators) and shows Machoke sitting peacefully by a river with Chansey, Sandshrew, and Ditto resting in its arms. It’s a completely different energy from how Machoke usually gets depicted.

The Vending Series was released in Japan between 1998 and 1999 as a vending machine exclusive, meaning these cards never came in booster packs and were never released in English. That exclusivity, combined with Komiya’s distinctive illustrative style, makes this one worth hunting down.

Pokémon appearances: Ditto, Sandshrew, Chansey

Team Rocket’s Meowth · Wizards Promos #18

Another great vintage, this is one of the most surprisingly packed cameo cards in the entire TCG. The sparkly, abstract background hides 10 Pokémon silhouettes from the original anime.

Pokémon appearances (from top left, clockwise): Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Butterfree, Geodude, Charizard, Pikachu, Staryu, Jigglypuff, Lapras, Golbat

Mew ex · Paldean Fates #232

Also known as Bubble Mew in the community, this card has been a grail of ours for a while. The abstract, dreamlike artwork is unlike almost anything else in the modern era, and if you needed one more reason to love it, the scene is hiding five different Pokémon cameos if you look closely enough!

Pokémon appearances: Rattata, Diglett, Poliwag, Slowpoke, Oddish

Glaceon VMAX · Evolving Skies #209/203

One of the most beloved cards in the Evolving Skies set, and it’s packed. The alternate art places Glaceon in a sprawling autumn park scene with a whole cast of Pokémon visible in the background, including Eevee alongside one of its own evolutions.

Pokémon appearances: Pikachu, Eevee, Marill, Azumarill, Feebas, Pancham

Clive · Paldean Fates #236/091

One of the most charming trainer cards in the modern era. The SIR version of Clive turns the card into a full group scene: all the main Paldea professors and rivals gathered together in what looks like a town square, with Pokémon tucked into every corner of the artwork. Sylveon is front and center with Penny on the left, Psyduck waddles in at the bottom, and if you look closely you’ll find Hoppip, Fletching, Applin, Lechonk, Charcadet, and Tadbulb all hiding in the scene. Even the Rotom Phone makes an appearance.

Pikachu · Crown Zenith #160

A chaotic, action-packed full art with an almost absurd number of Pokémon cameos crammed into one scene. Gengar, Mewtwo, Garchomp, Gyarados, Toxicroak, and more are all visible surrounding Pikachu in what looks like an all-out battle. One of the most cameo-dense cards in the modern era alongside the 151 Pikachu.

Pokémon appearances: Crobat, Hisuian Zoroark, Inteleon, Crowned Zacian, Gigantamax Rapid Strike Urshifu, Spectrier, Calyrex

Greavard · Scarlet & Violet #214

The little haunted dog comes with company. Both Gastly and Gengar are hiding in the background of this card, making the whole ghost family complete in one piece of art.

Paradise Resort World Championships Cards

The Paradise Resort trainer card has been released as a World Championships promo three years running, and each version features a completely different scene packed with Pokémon. The mechanic on the card — reducing Psyduck’s retreat cost — is a nod to the Pokémon resort from the games, but the artwork is where the real fun is. All three are World Championships exclusives, so they’re on the pricier and harder-to-find side!

2023 (#SVP045) — Lapras takes center stage with Sprigatito, Pikachu, and Buizel.

2024 (#SVP150) — Pikachu front and center surfing a wave, with Buizel, Dedenne, and more.

2025 (#SVP224) — A busy resort scene with Eevee, Pikachu, Clefairy, Haunter, and Lickitung in the background.

Champions Festival (XY Promos #176 & SM Promos #231)

The Champions Festival has been released across multiple sets and each version is stacked with cameos. These can also run on the pricier side, but they’ve got all the favorites!

Pokémon appearances: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Eevee, Psyduck, and more depending on the version
