Purple Pokémon Cards

The 82 Best Purple Pokémon Cards

Purple has a way of making everything feel a little mysterious. It’s the color of Ghost, Poison and Psychic types, so it makes sense that so many of the hobby’s most-loved Pokémon live here.

We gathered our favorite purple Pokémon cards, from cute and cozy to dark and moody, plus vintage, CG and everyday pulls for your binder. If you're building a color-themed binder, our pink Pokémon cards post pairs nicely with this one.

Cute Purple Cards

Purple doesn’t always have to be spooky. This is the softer side of the color, with little ghosts, Psychic types and Pecharunt, which looks sweet enough until you remember the mochi. Morpeko shows up more than once here, and we’re not complaining.

Our Picks:

Cute Purple Pokémon Cards

Bold Purple Illustration Rares & Full Arts

This is purple at its most dramatic. Gengar, Mewtwo and Team Rocket bring the villain energy, while Toxtricity shows up a couple of times like it’s headlining the show. It’s the section for anyone whose binder leans a little darker.

Our Picks:

Bold Purple Illustration Rares & Full Arts

Vintage Purple Cards

Gengar has been purple since day one, so it’s no surprise it takes over the older cards too. Espeon, Mewtwo and a few Gastly and Haunter cards round things out for anyone who likes their purple with a side of nostalgia.

Our Picks:

Vintage Purple Pokémon Cards

Cards of Purple Pokémon

Naturally, Gengar runs this section. A few other purple favorites sneak in too, like Pecharunt and Crobat, but it’s hard to compete with a Pokémon that’s been grinning in the shadows since Red and Blue. For more ghostly picks, check out our spooky Pokémon cards!

Our Picks:

Cards of Purple Pokémon

CG & 3D Purple Cards

Purple and CG are a great match. Mewtwo and Espeon show up more than once, and the rendered style suits Pokémon that already look a little otherworldly.

Our Picks:

CG & 3D Purple Cards

Affordable & Common Purple Cards

You don’t need a chase card to fill a purple binder page. These are everyday pulls and promos, and yes, Gengar shows up again and again!

Stoner Pokémon Cards

42 Stoner Pokémon Cards: Pokémon That Look High

Some Pokémon just look high. They’ve got half closed eyes, a slow smile, and the energy of someone who hasn’t checked their phone in six hours. Once you start noticing it, you’ll see it all over the TCG, from 1999s Exeggutor right up to the newest illustration rares.

We’ve gathered the stoner Pokémon cards that look the most out of it. If these are your thing, our round-up of trippy Pokémon cards is the natural next stop!

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Stoner Illustration Rares & Full Arts

The modern illustration rares commit to the bit. Seismitoad was one of the trippiest cards in our trippy round-up too, and Slakoth’s attack is still called Take It Easy. Snorlax shows up twice, which feels about right.

Our Picks:

Stoner Illustration Rares & Full Arts

Vintage & Older Stoner Pokémon Cards

Exeggutor carries this section and was born for this theme: three heads, and none of them are all there. With of course a few appearances from Drowzee.

Our Picks:

Vintage & Older Stoner Pokémon Cards

Commons & Affordable Stoner Pokémon Cards

Snorlax shows up more than once down here, which is exactly where you’d expect to find it. Spinda’s whole design is a dizzy wobble, so it was never getting left off, and Koffing is, well, Koffing.

Our Picks:

Commons & Affordable Stoner Pokémon Cards

Space Pokémon Cards

43 Space-Themed Pokémon Cards

Some of the most striking art in the hobby looks up. It’s full of galaxies, nebulas and star fields, plus a few Pokémon that come from outer space.

We’ve gathered the best space-themed Pokémon cards here, from cosmic illustration rares down to the commons that’ll fill out a starry binder page.

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Pokémon in Space & Galaxy Skies

These are the ones that leave the atmosphere entirely. In the games, Deoxys comes from outer space and Minior forms high up in the atmosphere, so both were always going to be here. Jirachi, the Wish Pokémon, fits right in alongside them!

Our Picks:

Pokémon in Space & Galaxy Skies

Starry Night Sky Pokémon Cards

Back down to earth, looking up. These cards have night skies and auroras, and on a few of them the stars do more work than the Pokémon. The Clefairy line belongs here naturally, since its lore has always tied it to the moon and the stars.

There are more starry skies, sunsets and beautiful skies in our round-up of sky Pokémon cards.

Our Picks:

Starry Night Sky Pokémon Cards

Vintage & Rare Space Cards

The older sets did space their own way, especially the holos. Deoxys got a whole Stadium in Space Center, and Time-Space Distortion is about as cosmic as a Trainer card gets. The Jungle Cubone has turned up in our round-ups before and keeps earning its spot.

Our Picks:

Vintage & Rare Space Cards

Commons & Affordable Space Cards

Deoxys and Minior both show up again down here, along with Cresselia, the Lunar Pokémon, and a Stadium card that’s literally called Ultra Space. Everything here is from the main run of its set, which makes this the easy way to fill out a page!

Our Picks:

Commons & Affordable Space Cards

Medieval Pokémon Cards

35 Medieval Pokémon Cards

Castles, armor, swords and more royalty than you'd expect. There are a surprising number of medieval-themed cards in the hobby, and plenty of them are illustration rares and full arts.

We've gathered the best medieval Pokémon cards out there!

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Medieval Full Arts & Illustration Rares

There's more than enough here to fill a page, from castle scenes to Pokémon in shining armor to a few that look ready for a coronation. The sword and shield Pokémon do a lot of the work, which makes sense, since Zacian and Zamazenta were designed around a knight's sword and shield. The Pawniard line is here in full too, which is about as close as Pokémon gets to a chess army.

Our Picks:

Medieval Full Arts & Illustration Rares

Medieval Trainer Cards

The trainers bring the royal court. Boss's Orders turns up four times across this post. N's Castle is exactly what it sounds like, and the Trainer Gallery Zacian brings its trainer along for the quest.

Our Picks:

Medieval Trainer Cards

Commons & Affordable Medieval Cards

Escavalier is a literal jousting knight, so it was always going to show up more than once, and it appears multiple times here. Everything in this section is from the main run of its set, which makes it the easy way to fill out a page.

Commons & Affordable Medieval Cards

Sad Pokémon Cards

31 Sad & Crying Pokémon Cards

Some cards make you want to reach into the binder and give the Pokémon a hug. They're crying, lost, or just having a rough day, and there are a surprising number of them once you start looking.

We've gathered the best sad and crying Pokémon cards here, from the illustration rares down to commons that hit just as hard.

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Sad Illustration Rares & Full Arts

The illustration rares have the most room to tell the story, and they use all of it. Hisuian Goodra shows up three times, which suits a Pokémon that always looks a little worried.

Our Picks:

Sad Illustration Rares & Full Arts

Vintage & Rare Sad Pokémon Cards

These are our favorite cards in the whole post. Cubone was always going to be here. Its Pokédex says the skull it wears belonged to its mother, and illustrators have been leaning into that since Jungle. The Omanyte is the one that gets us most though.

Our Picks:

Vintage & Rare Sad Pokémon Cards

Commons & Affordable Sad Pokémon Cards

Plenty to choose from here, and some of the saddest cards in the post are commons. Trubbish might be the saddest of the lot, which is a lot of pressure for a bag of trash. There's also a Mimikyu whose own Pokédex says the Pikachu costume it wears to seem less scary only makes it creepier, and a Pikachu with an ability literally called Lonely Gaze.

Our Picks:

Commons & Affordable Sad Pokémon Cards

48 Gym, Working Out, Sports & Fitness-Themed Pokémon Cards

Gym means two things in Pokémon, and this post is about the other one. Not the badge kind, the treadmill kind: Pokémon lifting, boxing, training, and a handful actually playing a sport.

We've gathered our favorite gym rats in the hobby here, sorted by era and card type, plus a set of football promos that only ever came out in England!

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Fitness & Sports-Themed Full Art Cards

Gym work, physical labor, or just standing there being extremely jacked. The modern full arts give this theme room to breathe, and the Fighting types do most of the heavy lifting.

Our Picks:

Fitness & Sports-Themed Full Art Cards

Fitness Trainer & Item Cards

The supporting cast. Trainers who clearly lift, plus a small run of items that are literally gym equipment. Judge turns up three times across different sets, which makes him the easiest one here to collect as a group.

Our Picks:

Fitness Trainer & Item Cards

The On the Ball Futsal Promos

The only cards here that are about an actual sport. In 2019 The Pokémon Company signed a three-year deal with England's Football Association to grow participation in Futsal, and for the 2020-21 season that partnership turned into cards. Five of them: four given away with purchases at GAME stores in England, and a fifth included in kit bundles sent to schools and clubs on the FA's Youth Futsal Programme.

Our Picks:

The On the Ball Futsal Promos

Vintage Fitness Cards

The Machop line and the Hitmon family carry this one, and it tracks. Base Set, Team Rocket, the Gym sets, Neo Destiny and the e-Card series all show up, and it's Fighting types from top to bottom, with more boxers than any other section here.

Our Picks:

Vintage Fitness Cards

Commons & Affordable Fitness Cards

Everything here is in the main run of its set, so most of it turns up while you're collecting something else!

Meme Pokémon Cards

75 Meme Pokémon Cards You Can’t Unsee

Some of these cards look like a meme. Some of them turned into memes. And a few are pure coincidence, where a Pokémon just happens to be doing the exact thing someone did in a viral photo years ago.

We've gathered our favorite Pokémon card memes here, side by side with the images they remind us of. There are a couple you won't be able to unsee.

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Mega Starmie & Patrick Star

Long legs, hands on hips, and it's a starfish. It's uncanny.

Mega Starmie ex · Perfect Order #102 on eBay

Mega Starmie & Patrick Star

Well Akshually Simisear

The "well, actually" meme is the internet's shorthand for the person who jumps in to correct something nobody asked about. Simisear has the raised finger and the smug little face to match, and now we can't see it any other way.

Simisear VSTAR · Crown Zenith #GG37 on eBay

Well Akshually Simisear

Combusken & Scrafty Doing the Dab & Nae Nae

Pure coincidence, and our favorite kind. Combusken was dabbing in 2007, years before anyone else was, and Scrafty showed up a decade late doing the Nae Nae.

Our Picks:

Combusken & Scrafty Doing the Dab & Nae Nae

The 6-7 Clobbopus

If you've been around anyone under 15 lately, you already know the 6-7 meme. Collectors took one look at this Clobbopus, arms going up and down like the hand motion, and that was that. It's been the 6-7 Clobbopus ever since.

Clobbopus · Surging Sparks #207 on eBay

The 6-7 Clobbopus

Blissey & Homer Simpson Bush

You've definitely seen the GIF of Homer slowly backing into a hedge when he'd rather not be anywhere. This Blissey is doing the same thing, just pinker.

Blissey · Aquapolis #H6 on eBay

Blissey & Homer Simpson Bush

Grimer & SpongeBob and Patrick

Another SpongeBob entry. Grimer looks like it just got caught doing something it shouldn't have, mouth wide open, which is exactly the face SpongeBob and Patrick make mid-scream.

Grimer · Aquapolis #79 on eBay

Grimer & SpongeBob and Patrick

Gold Charizard & the Disappointed Cricket Fan

This one turns Charizard into a gold silhouette on a gold card. If you pulled it hoping to actually see the Charizard, this is probably your face. He's Muhammad Sarim Akhtar, better known as the Disappointed Cricket Fan, and his reaction at a Pakistan vs Australia match has been the internet's go-to disappointed face ever since.

Mega Charizard Y ex · Ascended Heroes #294 on eBay

Gold Charizard & the Disappointed Cricket Fan

Derpy Cards

These two feel like they came out of a fever dream. You've seen these Pokémon a hundred times, just never drawn quite like this. We have a whole roundup of funny Pokémon cards if you want more in this vein.

Our Picks:

Derpy Meme Pokémon Cards

Hole Bonsly

This one is a full internet saga. Bonsly is based on a potted bonsai tree, and like a real bonsai pot, it has a drainage hole on the bottom. On this card it's knocked over and crying, which puts that hole front and center, and the internet decided it looked like something else entirely. Collectors have called it Hole Bonsly ever since.

It stayed an inside joke for years, partly because it was the only English Bonsly card for 16 years. Then creator Emily Hopkins, known for her harp and guitar pedal videos, revealed she'd quietly collected over 300 copies and filled a binder with them, and the whole thing went viral.

Bonsly · Diamond & Pearl #71 on eBay

Hole Bonsly Meme Card

Cramorant & Swallowed Up Pikachu

Cramorant's whole deal is swallowing whatever's in front of it, and sometimes that's Pikachu. The Japanese promo is literally called Swallowed Up Pikachu, so this one was in on the joke from the start. The Cramorant is from Pokémon TCG Pocket, so it's digital only, but the two belong together.

Our Picks:

Cramorant & Swallowed Up Pikachu

N’s PP Up

We'll let you read the name again on your own. In the game, PP Up just gives a move more uses, but out of context a lot of collectors went straight to the gutter. And the irony isn't lost on us that it's a pill bottle.

N's PP Up · Ascended Heroes #262 on eBay

N’s PP Up

Spot the Pokémon

Less meme, more I Spy. Half the joke with these is how long it takes to find the Pokémon at all, and Sudowoodo hiding as one of the trees is about as on-brand as it gets.

Our Picks:

Spot the Pokémon

Slakoth & Wooper

No meme to match here, because these cards are the meme. Both look like they clocked out days ago with no plans to clock back in. Slakoth's attack is called Take It Easy, which reads more like a confession.

Our Picks:

Slakoth & Wooper Meme Card

Houndoom & Side Eye Dog

This one's right on the nose. You've probably seen the dachshund giving the most suspicious side eye of all time, and Houndoom is doing pretty much the same look.

Houndoom · Undaunted #82 on eBay

Houndoom & Side Eye Dog

Slowbro & Yellow Jacket Man

Slowbro isn't the joke here. It's the Bellsprout peeking out from behind the tree, which is the yellow jacket man meme exactly, the one you send when you're watching drama unfold or waiting for your food delivery to pull up. We have a whole roundup of cameo Pokémon cards like this one.

Slowbro · Japanese Trainers Magazine Promo on eBay

Slowbro & Yellow Jacket Man

Japanese Vending Series

More fever dreams than cards. These two are from the Japanese vending series, and they land somewhere between charming and completely unhinged.

Our Picks:

Japanese Vending Series Meme Cards

Imakuni? Cards

Imakuni? is a real Japanese entertainer who ended up with his own cards, and they're exactly as strange as that sounds. His Doduo tells you to throw the card as hard as you can when it retreats, and its attack only lands once you've finished singing a song. It's also banned from official tournaments, which tracks. There are more oddities like these in our roundup of unique Pokémon cards.

Our Picks:

Imakuni? Meme Cards

Delta Species Dittos

Every one of these is a Ditto doing an impression of another Pokémon, and the Ditto face gives it away every time. Yuka Morii made them as photographed clay figures, which somehow makes the derpiness land even harder.

Our Picks:

Delta Species Dittos

Dugtrio & Diglett

Diglett has been a meme since the 90s for one reason: nobody knows what's underneath. These three don't answer the question, but Alolan Dugtrio did show up with a full blowout, which raises a few new ones.

Our Picks:

Dugtrio & Diglett Meme Cards

Poochyena & Possum

There's no single possum meme this matches, it's more the energy. Possum memes are for when you're chaotic, exhausted, and a little feral on the inside, and Poochyena is all three.

Poochyena · EX Holon Phantoms #80 on eBay

Poochyena & Possum

Gumshoos

Gumshoos has drawn a lot of comparisons to Donald Trump since it was first revealed, mostly over the hair. Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it.

Gumshoos · Mega Evolution #153 on eBay

Donald Trump Pokémon Card

Close Up Cards

You know the photos where a cat's face takes up the whole frame because it walked right up to the camera? These are those. Slightly too close, and very proud of it.

Our Picks:

Close Up Meme Pokemon Cards

Abra & Relief Dog

This is the dog closing its eyes in the sun, the meme for pure relief or for being completely cooked. Fitting, since Abra spends most of its life asleep anyway.

Abra · Twilight Masquerade #080 on eBay

Abra & Relief Dog Meme Pokémon

Wigglytuff & Kevin James

This is a Pokémon TCG Pocket card, so you can't buy it, but it was too good to leave off. That sheepish little smile is the Kevin James meme, the old King of Queens promo photo the internet adopted as the face of mild embarrassment.

Wigglytuff · TCG Pocket

Wigglytuff & Kevin James

Charmander

Last but not least, the one where the card came first. This furious Charmander stuck behind a window became the meme for when you're happy for someone, but also, deep down, not at all.

Nature Pokémon Cards

The 89 Best Nature Pokémon Cards

Some of the best Pokémon art has nothing to do with battling. It's a Deerling in the trees, a Stadium card that's just a forest, a Pokémon somewhere out in the open with the weather doing all the work.

We've gathered the best nature Pokémon cards here, sorted by where they are: forest, sky, fields, mountains and water, plus the trainer cards that are really landscapes with a name on them!

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Forest Pokémon Cards

Biggest section by far, and this is with restraint. Forest is the setting illustrators reach for most, which is why we gave it a post of its own.

There's plenty more in our roundup of forest Pokémon cards!

Our Picks:

Sky Pokémon Cards

Up and out of the trees. Clouds, open air, and a lot of cards where the Pokémon is small against a very large amount of nothing. We went further into this in our roundup of beautiful sky Pokémon cards!

Our Picks:

Sky Pokémon Cards

Fields & Meadow Pokémon Cards

Ground level and wide open. These sit between the forest and sky sections, close enough to the horizon that you often get both in one card, and they make the calmest looking binder page of anything here.

Our Picks:

Fields & Meadow Pokémon Cards

Mountain Pokémon Cards

The smallest section here, and the one that leans hardest on scale. A couple of them have a peak that looks an awful lot like Mt. Fuji, which puts them right next to the territory we covered in our roundup of Studio Ghibli-style Pokémon cards.

Our Picks:

Mountain Pokémon Cards

Rivers, Lakes & Waterfall Cards

Rivers, shorelines and a few cards where you only clock the water on a second look.

If you want more of what's happening below the surface or in the water, check out our round-up of the best underwater Pokémon cards!

Our Picks:

Rivers, Lakes & Waterfall Cards

Nature Trainer & Stadium Cards

Half of these are Stadium cards, which means the location is the entire illustration with nothing else going on, and that's exactly what makes them work on a nature page. Viridian Forest, Mt. Coronet and Gravity Mountain all have a second version in the commons section below too.

Our Picks:

Nature Trainer & Stadium Cards

Commons & Affordable Nature Cards

Journey Together carries most of this section, which says something about how that set was illustrated. Nearly everything here sits in the main run rather than the back half, so it's the easiest way to fill out a page.

Our Picks:

Commons & Affordable Nature Cards

Underwater Pokémon Cards

57 Underwater & Swimming Pokémon Cards

Water is the setting illustrators keep coming back to, and it's one of the most consistently beautiful corners of the hobby. Depth and light do a lot of the work, so even a common sitting in the middle of a set list can end up looking like a painting.

We've gathered the best underwater Pokémon cards here, sorted by how deep they go, from the fully submerged full arts down to the ones just paddling around at the surface!

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Underwater Full Arts & Illustration Rares

This is the deep end, where the Pokémon is fully under and the water is doing all the work. The modern illustration rares carry this theme, and there are enough of them now that you could fill a binder page or two with nothing but submerged cards.

Our Picks:

Underwater Full Arts & Illustration Rares

Swimming & Floating Pokémon Cards

Up at the surface now, where it's less about depth and more about a Pokémon enjoying the water. There's natural crossover with our roundup of beach Pokémon cards if you're building a summer page!

Our Picks:

Swimming & Floating Pokémon Cards

Vintage Underwater Pokémon Cards

Underwater art goes back a long way. The e-Card series does a lot of the lifting here, and Southern Islands was a tropical island set to begin with, so water was never going to be far away. The Squirtle line turns up more than anyone else, which tracks!

Our Picks:

Vintage Underwater Pokémon Cards

Commons & Affordable Underwater Cards

There are enough water types in every set that you can fill most of a binder page from the commons alone. These all sit in the main run of their sets rather than the secret rare back half, so they tend to turn up on their own while you're collecting something else.

Our Picks:

Commons & Affordable Underwater Cards

Best Trainer Cards Pokémon

78 Best & Cute Pokémon Trainer Cards

Trainer cards are where the Pokémon world gets its people. For years they were the ones you played without looking at, and now they're some of the most collected art in the hobby, full arts and special illustration rares included.

We've gathered the best Pokémon trainer cards here, from the cutest supporters to the characters with enough cards to fill a binder page on their own!

We’re a small team of two and our links keep woahpoke running. As an eBay Partner Network affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Learn more.

Cute Trainer Cards

The biggest section here, and the easiest place to start a page. Skyla, Lana and Rosa all turn up more than once, which makes them good anchors if you want to build around a single character. If you want more in this vein, we have a whole roundup of cute Pokémon cards beyond the trainers!

Our Picks:

Cute Trainer Cards Pokémon

The Coolest Pokémon Trainer Cards

The other end of the spectrum. Villains, rivals, champions, and at least one Team Rocket scheme in progress. There's crossover with our roundup of the coolest Pokémon cards if you want the Pokémon side of this too!

Our Picks:

Coolest Pokémon Trainer Cards

Pokémon Cards with Their Trainers

Technically these are Pokémon cards, not trainer cards, but the trainer is right there in the frame. The Trainer Gallery subsets from Brilliant Stars through Crown Zenith did most of the heavy lifting, and the trainer prefixed cards that started showing up in Destined Rivals have picked the idea back up!

Our Picks:

Pokémon Cards with Their Trainers

Lillie's Cards

Lillie has more cards built around her than nearly any other character outside the main rivals, and she's one of the most collected trainers in the hobby. Her Clefairy alone turns up four times in this section.

Our Picks:

Lillie's Trainer Pokemon Cards

N's Cards

N comes with his Pokémon attached, which is why this section has nearly as many Reshirams and Zekroms as it does him. Black Bolt and Journey Together both leaned into that connection, so his cards tend to work better as a set than one at a time.

Our Picks:

N's Trainer Cards

Ash’s Cards

Everything here is Japanese, since Ash never got the same treatment in English. The Ash vs Team Rocket deck kit is where most of them live, and picking up the kit is the simplest way to get several at once.

Our Picks:

Ash's Pokémon Trainer Cards

Red’s Cards

A shorter run, but Red gets the kind of cards that suit him. Mostly Pikachu, which is the point.

Our Picks:

Red's Pokémon Trainer Cards

Ethan’s Cards

One of the newest trainer runs, all of it out of Destined Rivals and Ascended Heroes. He got a Ho-Oh ex in two versions, which makes a neat pair if you're building a page around him.

Our Picks:

Ethan's Trainer Cards

Misty’s Cards

Misty has been getting cards since Gym Heroes, which gives her the longest run of anyone here. It goes from the Gym era supporters through dozens of modern cards with her Pokémon, and includes Misty's Tears, which ended up on our list of banned Pokémon cards.

Our Picks:

Misty's Trainer Cards

The Friends in... Supporter Cards

A small family of cards that all do the same thing: put a region's cast into one frame. Paldea, Sinnoh, Hisui and Galar each get one, and each of them turns up twice here!

Our Picks:

The Friends in... Supporter Cards

Affordable & Common Trainer Cards

Most of the characters above also have a plain version sitting in the main run of their set. No full art treatment, and they're the easiest way to get a page going before you chase the big ones.

Our Picks:

Affordable & Common Trainer Cards
