Fall might be the season Pokémon card art does best. Warm palettes, leaf piles, apple orchards, and that low afternoon light that makes a card look like a memory instead of a game piece. It also cuts across everything, so you’ll find fall art on illustration rares, old commons, promos, and Chinese exclusives alike. Here are our favorite fall cards, sorted by the kind of mood you’re going for!

Forest & Nature Fall Cards

Forest cards are where fall art gets to show off. A lot of these run on the same idea, which is putting a Pokémon somewhere quiet and letting the trees do the talking, and it works every time. Leafeon V is the one most people already know, but the Ninetales from Obsidian Flames is the quiet standout of the group. If you want a binder page that reads as one mood with almost no effort, start here.

Slice of Life Fall Cards

These are the cards where nothing much is happening, and that’s the whole appeal. A park bench, a walk through town, an afternoon you’d actually want to be having. Mr. Mime from 151 is the one we see in the most binders, though the Chinese Gem Pack Cubone is a modern grail that never got an English print.

Cozy Fall Cards

Cozy is its own category at this point. Fireplaces, lamps, blankets, and a lot of orange. The Mega Evolution set turned out a couple of good ones, and Flareon V is still one of the best fire promos out there. These are the picks if your binder spread skews warm and indoors rather than out in the woods!

Apple Cards

Get ready for apple picking season. The Applin line has quietly become its own little subgenre of card art, and every set that touches it seems to lean into orchards, pies, and tea tables.

Tepig & Pignite from White Flare

White Flare gave the Tepig line two illustration rares back to back, and both landed. They’re recent enough that they haven’t gotten too expensive yet, which makes this an easy pair to grab together. We’d put them next to each other in a binder rather than splitting them up!

Our Picks:

Tepig & Pignite from White Flare

Connecting Deerling & Sawsbuck from Temporal Forces

Susumu Mizoe illustrated both of these for Temporal Forces and they were built to sit side by side. The Deerling line has always been the four seasons Pokémon, so getting a pair of cards that show all four at once is the payoff collectors had been waiting on.

Tepig & Pignite from White Flare

Affordable & Common Fall Cards

Not every fall card needs to be a full art. These are the ones you can pick up for pocket change, and a few of them are older than most of the binders they’ll end up in. Poliwhirl from Unleashed is our favorite of the bunch. A page built entirely from cards like these still reads as fall!
