Once you start looking for sky cards, you find them everywhere. The Pokémon TCG has quietly built up hundreds of cards where the sky is doing most of the work, from city sunsets to starfields to plain wide-open blue. It’s one of the easiest themes to build a binder around because it cuts across every set, every era, and every price point. Here are our favorites, sorted by the kind of sky you’re after!

Vibrant Skies Cards

These are the cards that lead with color. Big saturated skies, the kind that make a whole page pop the second you flip to it. Mew ex, Watchog, Jolteon V are some of our favorites. If you want one page that grabs attention, build it out of this section.

Our Picks:

Vibrant Skies Pokémon Cards

Sunrise & Sunset Skies Cards

Golden hour is the busiest corner of this whole theme, and easily the biggest section of this list. Illustrators reach for sunrise and sunset constantly, probably because the light does half the work for them. The Charizard ex from 151 is the one everyone knows, but White Flare and Black Bolt quietly turned out a stack of great ones, and the Paradox Rift illustration rares are worth digging through too. Plenty in here you can pick up, including some pretty affordable illustration rares!

Our Picks:

Sunrise & Sunset Pokémon Cards

Starry & Night Skies

Starry skies are where this theme gets its best chase cards. A Pokémon under a sky full of stars lands every time and makes a stunning spread!

Our Picks:

Starry & Night Skies Pokémon Cards

Flying in the Sky Cards

The most literal version of the theme, and probably the most fun to collect. Pokémon actually up in the air, wings out, nothing but open sky behind them. Dragons dominate this section, which tracks, and the Rayquaza cards alone could fill a page on their own. If you want an anchor piece, the Latias ex and Latios from Surging Sparks are a great pair. Drampa is also a personal favorite for us!

Our Picks:

Flying Sky Pokémon Cards

Orange Skies Cards

A small section, but a good one. Orange skies read differently from a sunset, more heat and dust than golden hour, and these few share that same wide open feel. They’re all illustration rares from recent sets, so none of them take much hunting.

Our Picks:

Orange Skies Pokémon Cards

Dark Night Skies Cards

Where the night skies section goes moody. Less starlight, more darkness, and unsurprisingly it’s almost all dark types. Darkrai turns up multiple times here and earns every appearance.

Our Picks:

Dark Night Skies Pokémon Cards

Miscellaneous Skies Cards

A few that didn’t slot neatly into any one section but were too good to cut. Iron Crown ex and Skarmory are personal underrated faves! Blaziken VMAX from Chilling Reign is a pretty penny but super unique.

Our Picks:

Blue Skies Pokémon Cards
